Get The Most From Your Visit
- Take inventory and bring list of 3-4 issues to your visit.
- Don't rely on checklists at doctor's offices
- Bring up these issues early during your visit
(e.g. don't say as the doctor is leaving the room,
"By the way, what do you
think of this chest pain")
- Challenge your doctor about issues you may have sought from
alternative
treatments or concerns from the internet
- Bring a list of all medications you take.
This includes over the counter pills (e.g. Motrin), herbs, and vitamins
- Be prepared to describe health conditions of family members
- Be prepared to honestly discuss personal issues about your health
This includes:
- Smoking
- Alcohol (10% of individuals have gene for alcoholism)
Consider the CAGE questions:
Have you ever needed to Cut down?
Does your drinking Annoy those close to you?
Do you feel Guilty about your drinking?
Do you ever have Eye openers?
- Exercise and Diet
- Sexual history
- Recognize and report abnormalities you may have noticed on your body.
This includes: moles, rashes, lumps, pains, edema, and other changes.
